Hi,

When there are about 15 to 20 visitors on my site, with only one ongoing chat session, it consume so much bandwidth that the traffic monitor window simply goes blank and stop working...

That is really bad as I'll be using Phplivehelper to provide Live Support for sites with many times more visitors and chat session than that...

Is that normal?

I bet you'll suggest that I change the refresh time rate to accommodate the traffic...but that isn't really a good suggestion...

Furthermore, out of ten "request" I made to initiate chat with my site visitors, 6 times it wouldn't work.

Advice.

I doubt you'll answer to my questions as below, but I really need to know the limits of Phplivehelper before more problems occurs while I'm providing Live Support on my clients sites.

With a 56k modem:

1) how many site visitors can Phplivehelper accommodate and still works smoothly?

2) How many ongoing chat session at the same time can Phplivehelper accommodate?

3) What is the best solution to use Phplivehelper to accommodate high traffic sites

Feels like I had made the wrong choice purchasing Phplivehelper...

Pls advice...Thanks.

Tommy Ken

PS: I guess I need a high bandwidth server, modem and ISP provider...but is that gonna work for sure?

You use a 56k modem to administer your sites. This is interesting. I have had 50+ visitors on my monitor without a hitch. I even did this from my office which only has a DSL modem running at 390dl/190ul, its all that I could get where I am located, and it worked like a champ. Wow this is a interesting question. If I am on vacation and the hotel I am at only has a modem connection, I will have fun monitoring on my laptop. Oh well, I shouldnt be working on vacation anyways..

Hi Valkster,

That's sure sound encouraging :)

Getting a DSL line in Chiangmai, Thailand is like asking for the impossible and as for a so called 56k ISP internet connection actually provide half the promised speed....and actually I'm supposed to be grateful for that!!!

Anyway, at least u proved to me that it wasn't the program problem, that's sure good to know because I had spent about six months searching and testing similar wares before decided to settle down on Phplivehelper...sure hope it works :p

Thank you.

No problem.

There are a lot of factors you may be battling as well, ie. latency, poor phone line, etc.

I to looked at almost every package I could find and just liked PHPlivehelper. The features are robust and simple to use. Also the support has been great, which is always my largest deciding factor.

Well I hope you didnt make the wrong descision and I hope we can get things straightoned out for you.

Using 56k

1) how many site visitors can Phplivehelper accommodate and still works smoothly?

Its hard to say exactly... I realize that where you are you are limited to 56k but there are alot of factors that can contribute to sloweness and you wont just find this occuring with our application. Any chat application will require a significant amount of bandwidth. Your server location is a giant factor. Distance from you and the server.

2) How many ongoing chat session at the same time can Phplivehelper accommodate?

We actually havent had over 20 concurrent chat sessions at a time so beyond that is unknown territory. Now we arent talking visitors, just chat sessions. I would imagine it could do alot better though. But your connect will always be a factor in what can handle. Usually the server wont have problems, but when logged into the admin area with 56k you will notice things are slow no matter how many chat sessions you have.

3) What is the best solution to use Phplivehelper to accommodate high traffic sites.

When logged into the admin interface its always nice to have broadband. But in your case that may not be an option. As I said above any chat application will be badwidth intensive. [B]

Hi,

Thanks for your prompt reply :)

My server is located at the other end of the planet from where I live...that could be the problem u are talking about...didn't know that it does make a difference of the distace between me and the server...it good to know though...thanks.

I could have more than 50 visitors on the site at the same time but 5 concurrent chat per operator at the same time will be good enough to work for me ;)

Actually I had guessed that the problem most probably lies in the speed of my internet connection and I'm already planning to put in a satellite system connection which the bandwidth will cost 7 times more expensive than in the U.S.!!!

It's unbelievably so expensive for broadband connection in Thailand and that's why I wanna make sure that it'll solve the problem if I put in the satellite system :D

Thanks for the support and information...appreciated :)

Thank you.

Tommy,

A while ago REACH were doing quite a good package in Bangkok which worked out to be about THB3,000 per month for a 512 dl and 256 ul. (This was unlimited use)

Don't know if the offer is still available or whether it was ever available in Chiang Mai.

There have been a number of other offers for higher speed connections but these tended to be priced by the hour of use etc.

So before you go the whole hog and get rigged up to the satalite dish have another hunt round.

Also I have a 56k line and have had 20+ visitors on the website with more than 5 chat sessions running without a problem. In fact I am an operator on 2 livehelpers simultaneously which again hasn't caused any problems (apart from you have to have one open in IE and the other in NN).

Hope you find something which suits.

David

Hi David,

Thanks for your information :)

By the way, I can actually get prices much lower than Bt3,000 a month in BKK...but...not in Chiangmai :(

There are only a few location in Chiangmai where u can get DSL line and my location wasn't included. The only secondary choice for broadband other than DSL is satellite system.

As for satellite system, they don't have unlimited time or bandwidth package. It's either by hourly rate or by bandwidth usage.

I need to stay online for 24/7/365 and therefore, hourly rate is out of the question. As for bandwidth limited package, would u believe that not only they charge u for datas received....but also datas sent!!! Doesn't make sense...but gotta live with it.

Overall, I believe the problem doesn't lie on Phplivehelper...it's my ISP. They promised 56K but....

Would be much easier if I move to BKK...but...BKK!!?? No way...I rather live with slow internet connection...hahaha

I also uses NN and IE at the same time to monitor different domains :P

Keep cool man...Thanks ;-)

Drop me a line if u happen to pass by Chiangmai...have a bottle of cold cold beer on me :)

Tommy

Tommy,

Next time I come to Chiang Mai will give you the heads up as would be good to meet for a beer.

Yeah, you hit the nail on the head about living in Chiang Mai with slow internet as opposed to BKK.

Can you pass back the info you had about broadband in BKK which was better than 3k a month.

Rather than clogg up this forum drop us a line on i f p d @ l o x i n f o . c o . t h (without the spaces).

Cheers
