Shipping Table

We have been researching new eCommerce Software for our online store and have to say that SunShop is one of the best we have seen. Not only is it loaded with features, but it appears that TWT is taking SEO and PCI Compliance very seriously. The only problem we have is regarding the Shipping Table. We ship very much like Amazon.com in that we use just about every Shipping Carrier for one reason or another. But to use the Shipping Modules and list every single shipping method within those modules would be too much for our customers to sort through so a Shipping Table makes more sense for us or anyone else who uses multiple carriers. We have been reading the Forum Postings and see that this issue has already been voiced but we need to know if you have any intentions of improving the shipping table and if so, when do you think it would be fully functional? The free shipping discount specific to a given shipping method is also very much needed. Since these are such important issue for us, we may have to consider purchasing an inferior product just to get a shipping table that allows more than one method of shipping as well as some of the other requested functionality. We need to make a decision on software very soon but would consider delaying our project if we knew SunShop would be improving this feature.

if TWT were to do anything it would be the next version I guess, knowing how long it took for the 4.0 to come along , I fear it may be another year before they can consider touching the shipping tables. TWT I do not intend to speak for you , Correct me if I am wrong.

I know that TWT is way passed their expected completion date. It seems like every time they set a date, they erase it and then add a new one. It’ll be a full year over-do if they don’t finish it up by this summer! I am surprised how tolerant everyone is.

That said, we were considering using the shipping modules but the USPS module doesn’t appear to be working correctly. First Class is never offered as an option even though it’s activated in the module. Parcel Post always adds additional postage for special package conditions that you may or may not be subject to. I suppose if they could at least get the First Class part of the USPS Module to work right we may be able OK with that. But then there is the Free Shipping Discount that gets applies to everyone no matter what shipping option they choose. These just seem like little yet important things that could easily be implemented.

What are your thoughts Vegvit? Are you sticking with SunShop? If anyone else could offer a suggestion, we would really appreciate it!

This has already been addressed in another post. As we stated, before we commit to altering the shipping table at this point we need to focus on wrapping up the other features and getting the final version out. We do have plans to improve on it but we just don't have a time line.

I am not sure we will be sticking with Sunshop for the long haul. It has been just over a year since we implemented Sunshop and even though I am Ok with the functionality for the most part I am concerned about TWT's stability. It appears they have lost some good people and never got the replacements, which slows things down. There are some areas of the cart that need improvement and the pace of progress is dreadful.

Generally we want to be with an established company who could support us all the time. TWT -at the moment- seems a bit shaken and not fully recovered. I renewed our license for another year but I will closely watch TWT and their service quality during this time. At the end of the year if things have not improved we may very well consider another cart.

I know some people (developers, website owners) already considering moving to other carts or have left. I beileve it is up to TWT at this point to step forward and prove they are still up to their original standards.

There are some areas of the cart that need improvement and the pace of progress is dreadful.

I am not sure how exactly you can make this claim. We are busting our humps trying to get 4.0 out and the differences between the version 3.5.1 and earlier and 4.0 is like night and day. Not only did we rebuild the entire shop from the ground up, be we managed to add all kinds of new features.

I don't agree with this statement at all, in fact its quite the opposite. We are seeing more and more interest in SunShop since its initial 4.0 beta release. And I am sure there are many on this board that would agree that we are moving in the right direction with 4.0.

GreenHorn1: You wont have to pay anything extra and the release is not far off at all. We know everyone has been waiting but what exactly do you expect us to do. Programming is not an exact science and you always run into problems now and then that can set you back. We made guesses at release dates and unfortunately we are wrong. We have apologized about it many time but there is still nothing that can be done. We cant force an unfinished product on our clients and we definitely cannot skip the beta and RC steps.

Fingerstyle: We never said we weren't going to fix any USPS issues that exist and I have already stated that we will improve upon the shipping table. You act as if I am saying no to these things but if you read my post again you will see that I say we will be. Immediately come the posts about how we aren't doing it fast enough. Check the tracker and you will see that the USPS weight issue is a open issue. The problem is on USPS side as they don't except all weight values and we are working on a fix.

I apologize if things got a little heated. We are very excited about 4.0 but when we saw First Class not working, our life flashed before our eyes. It may be an open issue in Bug Tracker but the comments there stated that it is a USPS issue, which suggested to us that TWT was chalking it up as “not their problem”. Although we would prefer a better shipping table, our main concern was whether or not we could make 4.0 work for us. We have been using the USPS Module in 3.5 and it is working fine so as long as we can get it working in 4.0 before the final release, we will be able to wait on the shipping table.

Ditto for us! You’re all through with the Beta Releases and you are now on the second RC Release so we know 4.0 Final is coming soon, but we still see that the USPS Module isn’t working correctly so we started getting nervous. We too would prefer a Shipping Table but as long as the USPS Module is working correctly then we can wait on the Shipping Table.

Have you thought about looking at the code in the old USPS Module in 3.5? In that version, the module is working perfectly well.

Odd thing is that I believe the modules are the same... but we will look into it before RC 3 due out next Tuesday.
